“Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics (also spelled orthopaedics) is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital conditions.”

As an orthopedic medical assistant you will work with orthepedic surgeons that provide services for most musculoskeletal problems. You will most likely assist in outpatient or in-office procedures including arthoscopes, splinting and casting. This is a very interesting career to have if you like bones.

Othopedics perform many different procedures some include:
Hand surgery
Shoulder and elbow surgery
Total joint reconstruction (arthroplasty)
Pediatric orthopedics
Foot and ankle surgery
Spine surgery
Musculoskeletal oncology
Surgical sports medicine
Orthopedic trauma .
