I’ve noticed recently that there has been a surge in the amount of people wanting to apply to physician assistant school. A doctor I work with told me that he’s done about fifteen physician assistant school recommendations this year and only about three recommendations for medical school. So exactly what does that mean? It means that the physician assistant school is getting more popular and in turn so is the medical assistant profession.
So as these new physician assistant school applicants strive to differentiate and outdo the other applicants some if not most are getting jobs in clinics as extenders and medical assistants. This is really a great thing for the profession. You have these eager people that love the medical field and ultimately want to be a physician assistant providing their services and knowledge in the clinic. Since they aspire to become more, they are interested in seeing more and learning about the field they are in.
Most won’t have gone to a medical assistant school or medical assistant program. They usually just apply for a medical assistant job and explain what they currently are doing and what there plans are and most are hired. Some do however attend a medical assistant program and become certified. The ones that actually go to a program and become certified are a little more qualified. They get the basics in the medical assistant program and are able to build on from those once they start the job as a medical assistant. If you have the time I strongly suggest that you go to medical assistant school. It’s so much easier to learn everything in the program than to learn it all on the job.
